May 13th is the David McKannan 5K run at Grissom High School. We have supported this 5K run for several years as a troop service project, and it is just another way that we are able to provide help to the local ALS Association. David passed away from ALS, and his family honors his memory by sponsoring this 5K as a fundraiser. David ran track at Grissom, and the course is held there as a memorial to who David was.
The service project involves basic setup and cleanup, and helping the runners make the turns in the neighborhood behind the school where the 5K course is. There is also a 1 mile fun run in the parking lot and on the track that we help marshal once the 5K is complete. We arrive at 6 am to help with setup, and are usually done by 9:30 or 10 am.
